Buying a Bike

Buying a new bike

With so many bicycles on the market it can be a daunting task knowing which one to pick. Luckily we're here to help you find your perfect bike!

The first thing you need to decide is what sort of bike you are looking for. Below are a list of different types of bicycles and their uses.

Mountain Bikes - This is the most common bicycle people own. It is useful for a variety of situations and is both robust and comfortable to ride. If you are looking to go both on-road and off-road then this is the bicycle for you. Mountain bikes have tougher frames and chunkier tyres which allow them to be ridden off the beaten track.

Road Bikes - These bikes tend to be for more serious cyclists or people looking to get from A to B quickly. They have a more bent over riding position so are not as relaxed to ride as other bicycles. Road bikes have thinner tyres and lighter frames so are normally only ridden on roads and tarmac.

Hybrid Bikes - If you are looking for the best of both worlds then a hybrid bike is for you. With a more upright riding position and slightly wider tyres than a road bike, it is perfect for commuting or riding around town. Its flat tyres do not suit off-road as well as a mountain bike, but can cope better than a road bike would.

BMX Bikes - BMX bikes are small bikes used for doing tricks, usually in skate parks. They generally do not have gears and are more of a specialist bike.

All of the above bicycles have different specifications and options available. If you are unsure of which bike would suit you best then speak to a bicycle shop. They will be able to inform you about which bicycle would suit both your needs and your budget best.
